INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Simmons Tennis team will face MIT in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Division III tennis Tournament. Pairings for the 50-team national tournament were announced on Monday evening in Indianapolis.

Simmons will face MIT in first round action on Friday May 10 at host Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.  The contest will be a rematch of last week's contest won by MIT, 9-0.  The winner will advance to take on Middlebury on Saturday afternoon.

The Sharks, who are making their sixth NCAA Tournament appearance and fifth consecutive, are currently 15-5.  The Engineers (16-4) are seeking their first victory in the NCAA since 1993. Simmons last won a first round match in the 2010 tournament with a 5-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer.

The Sharks will be led by junior GNAC Player of the Year, Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.).  Playing in the top spot in both singles and doubles, Teague has a combined twenty-four victories on the season. Simmons will rely on their young talent, as the Sharks will start four freshmen singles players: Meghan Cokely (Haverhill, Mas.), Rachael Downey (Groveland, Mass.), Katie Crowley (Reading, Mass.) and Caroline Khoury (Portsmouth, Ohio).  Junior Rachel Sweeney (Norfolk, Mass.) will complete the singles line-up for Simmons.

Simmons advanced to the NCAA Tournament by capturing their fifth straight GNAC Championship and eighth in the last nine years.

The MIT Engineers, ranked #22 nationally in the latest ITA rankings, will be making their first tournament appearance since 2000.
