Sharks Fall to Bentley, 6-3

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Tennis captured their first win of the 2013 season with a 6-3 win over the Mount Holyoke College Lyons Monday afternoon.

WALTHAM, Mass. – Simmons Tennis fell to the Bentley University Falcons 6-3 in a non-conference match at the Bentley tennis courts Wednesday afternoon. 

Simmons, now 13-3 on the year, won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches as Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) and Meghan Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) teamed up to defeat Ludmilla Yamus and Stephania Adondakis, 9-7 in the No. 1 spot, while Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.) and Rachael Downey (Groveland, Mass.) defeated Catherine Gianino and Brittani Hetyei 8-6 in the two spot. But Bentley took the No. 3 match behind the efforts of seniors Rachael Litton and Paulina Sotomayor to defeat Caroline Khoury (Portsmouth, Ohio) and Rachel Sweeney (Norfolk, Mass.) 8-6.

Bentley rallied in singles play, defeating the Sharks in five of the six matches. Yamus won the top match for the Falcons, rallying to beat Teague 3-6, 6-3, 10-7. Salmela battled Rachael Litton, winning the first set 6-3, falling 6-7(6) in the second and coming back to win in the third, 10-5 for the Sharks lone singles win. 

Simmons returns to action on Monday, April 8th to take on Holy Cross on the road at 3:00 p.m.
