Salmela partnered freshman Meghan Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) in a 9-8 upset of NESCAC foes Lauren Jacobs and Madison Hartley of Wesleyan. The first time pairing of Salmela/Cokely faced two match points against at 4-6 in the tiebreaker but then won the final four points of the match to secure the win.

The next round saw the duo up against Amherst's Jordan Brewer and Sue Ghosh. Salmela and Cokely had game points in 5 of the 9 games but Brewer (ranked #1 nationally in doubles in 2011) and Ghosh were too strong on the big points as Amherst won going away 8-1.
