Teague Named GNAC Tennis Player of the Week

BOSTON, Mass. ? Simmons Tennis opened their 2011 season with a 9-0 loss vs. non-conference powerhouse Wheaton College at The Winsor School fields this afternoon.

BOSTON, Mass. ? The Sharks Tennis team fell to NESCAC powerhouse Wesleyan University (Conn.) yesterday 6-3 in an thrilling non-conference match at The Winsor School Courts in Boston, Mass. Simmons sophomore Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) was relentless in the #1 Singles spot, defeating the Cardinals? Sarah Miller 6-3, 4-6, 12-10 in an epic 2.5 hour match.

Simmons sophomore Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week, the GNAC announced on Monday. After two rainout matches last week, the Sharks hosted NESCAC powerhouse Wesleyan University (Conn.) on Saturday at The Winsor School courts.

BOSTON, Mass. – Sharks sophomore Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Week the GNAC announced Monday. This is Teague's second time receiving the honor this season.

The Sharks faced tough competition this week with NESCAC foe Colby College on Monday, followed by GNAC conference team Anna Maria on Wednesday, and finished the week with the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT), where the Sharks faced players from Brandeis University, Williams College, Curry College, and Springfield College.

Despite the competition, Teague went 4-0 this week, defeating Colby's Tess Perese 6-3, 6-3 in the #1 singles position and teamed up with Allison Bodek (Lynnfield, Mass.) to post a win at #1 doubles as well. Teague and Bodek joined forces again against Anna Maria and were victorious at #1 doubles against Victoria Minotti and Janice Wang.

At the NEWITT tournament on Saturday, Teague edged Roberta Bergstein from Brandeis University 9-7 in the first round, and reunited with partner Bodek to defeat Bergstein and Simone Vandroff 8-3 in doubles.

Teague is 6-3 on the season in singles play and undefeated in the GNAC. Partnering with Bodek, the pair is 7-5 on the season and 4-1 in GNAC play.

The Sharks earned a bye in the first round of playoffs and will host the semifinals on Saturday, October 22nd at 11:00 a.m.
