Sharks Topple Rams 8-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. ? Simmons tennis added to their six-match win streak Wednesday with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference win over the Suffolk University Rams 8-1 at the BB&N School.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Simmons tennis added to their six-match win streak Wednesday with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference win over the Suffolk University Rams 8-1 at the BB&N School.

The Sharks (7-3 Overall; 6-0 GNAC) collected all three doubles points early with Allison Bodek (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) teaming up to defeat Kelly Conrad and Erica LeBlanc 8-2 at the # 1 doubles position.

Following in their footsteps, teammates Andree Sime (Bradenton, Fla.) and Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.) paired to take down Adrianna Garrett and Rebecca Copland 8-1. Feeling the pressure to continue the sweep at doubles, the freshman pair of Kristi Mielbye (Hanson, Mass.) and Nicole Eskenazi (Goleta, Calif.) rounded out the doubles match, winning 8-2.

In the singles matches, Teague competed in the #1 singles position and overwhelmed Conrad for the second time in the day, winning 6-2, 6-1. Salmela added a point with a straight set win against Copeland, 6-0, 6-0 at #2 singles. Bodek, Sime, and Eskenazi each added wins at the #3, 4, and 5 singles, respectively.

The Rams lone point came at the #6 singles where Elizabeth Arkins defeated Sharks Heather Rotti (Clinton, Mass.) 6-1, 6-2. The Rams fall to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the GNAC with the loss.

Simmons will host GNAC conference rival Albertus Magnus on Saturday, October 8th at 12:00 p.m. at The Winsor School courts. The Rams travel to Johnson & Wales on the same date for a 12:00 p.m. match.
