Simmons Tennis Falls to Babson

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. ? Simmons Tennis defeated the Emerson College Lions 6-3 on Saturday on the courts at MIT to remain undefeated in the GNAC. The young Lions showed talent and poise, taking some tough matches from the Sharks, but their effort was unsuccessful. The Sharks moved to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in the GNAC while the Lions are now 2-3 overall and 2-1 in GNAC conference action.

BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons tennis opened their spring season Saturday afternoon with a loss to Babson College, 9-0 at the Winsor School courts.

In singles play, Beavers Alex Freeman defeated Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.) 6-2, 6-1 in the number one spot while Sarah Whitaker defeated Allison Bodek (Lynnfield, Mass.) 6-3, 6-0. Rebecca Stone picked up the win against Andree Sime (Bradenton, Fla.) and Minte Tamoshunas defeated Rachel Sweeney (Norfolk, Mass.) in the fourth position. Sharks freshman Kristi Mielbye (Hanson, Mass.) fell to Monica Mercer 6-3, 6-0 and Alexis Ferraro defeated Julie Ngo (Brockton, Mass.) in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

The Beavers swept the doubles play 8-0, 8-1, and 8-2 to complete the sweep.

Simmons returns to the court on April 14th against MIT at 1:00 p.m.
