Simmons Tennis Falls 6-3 to Powerhouse Wesleyan

BOSTON, Mass. ? Simmons Tennis opened their 2011 season with a 9-0 loss vs. non-conference powerhouse Wheaton College at The Winsor School fields this afternoon.

BOSTON, Mass. ? The Sharks Tennis team fell to NESCAC powerhouse Wesleyan University (Conn.) yesterday 6-3 in an thrilling non-conference match at The Winsor School Courts in Boston, Mass. Simmons sophomore Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) was relentless in the #1 Singles spot, defeating the Cardinals? Sarah Miller 6-3, 4-6, 12-10 in an epic 2.5 hour match.

Simmons sophomore Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week, the GNAC announced on Monday. After two rainout matches last week, the Sharks hosted NESCAC powerhouse Wesleyan University (Conn.) on Saturday at The Winsor School courts.

Simmons sophomore Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) was relentless in the #1 Singles spot, defeating the Cardinals' Sarah Miller 6-3, 4-6, 12-10 in an epic 2.5 hour match. The win is paramount in Teague's young career. The Sharks continued to exhibit their strength with freshman Nicole Eskenazi (Goleta, Calif.) in the #5 Singles spot, who picked up her first collegiate win with a 7-5, 7-6 win over Kaitlyn Clark.

Hannah Berkman was the most resounding victor for the Cardinals, copping a 6-2, 6-0 win at #6 singles and combining with Kaitlyn Clark for an 8-2 win at #3 doubles. Grace Smith also accounted for two team points with her 6-4, 6-4 triumph at #2 singles and a 9-7 win at #2 doubles, paired with newcomer Lauren Jacobs. Also taking a singles point for the Cardinals was Jacobs at #4 singles, making her a two-point contributor while Kiley Robbins snagged a tight win at #3 singles against Allison Bodek (Lynnfield, Mass.) for the Cardinals' sixth team point.

Teague also teamed up with Bodek to begin the day at #1 Doubles, defeating the Cardinals in an impressive 8-4 campaign. The win is the first of the season for duo.

The Sharks will travel to Brandeis on September 13th for a 3:00 non-conference match.
