Simmons Tennis Falls To Wheaton Lyons In Home Opener

BOSTON, Mass. ? Simmons Tennis opened their 2011 season with a 9-0 loss vs. non-conference powerhouse Wheaton College at The Winsor School fields this afternoon.

BOSTON, Mass. ? The Sharks Tennis team fell to NESCAC powerhouse Wesleyan University (Conn.) yesterday 6-3 in an thrilling non-conference match at The Winsor School Courts in Boston, Mass. Simmons sophomore Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) was relentless in the #1 Singles spot, defeating the Cardinals? Sarah Miller 6-3, 4-6, 12-10 in an epic 2.5 hour match.

Simmons sophomore Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week, the GNAC announced on Monday. After two rainout matches last week, the Sharks hosted NESCAC powerhouse Wesleyan University (Conn.) on Saturday at The Winsor School courts. 

BOSTON, Mass. ? Sharks sophomore Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Week the GNAC announced Monday. This is Teague?s second time receiving the honor this season.

The Lyons (1-0) began the morning by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Sophomores Margaret Teague (Manchester, NH) and Allison Bodek (Lynnfield, MA) fell 8-6 at number one doubles to sophomore Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, CA/Bakersfield Christian) and freshman Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View), while junior Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, MA) and sophomore Andree Sime (Bradenton, FL) were defeated 8-1in the No. 2 doubles match. Freshmen Nicole Eskenazi (Goleta, CA) and Kristi Mielbye (Hanson, MA) fell in an impressive 8-6 in their first collegiate match at number three doubles.

In singles play, Bodek fell in a close match to DiOrio who rebounded after dropping the first set 3-6, 6-1, 10-7. At No. 4 singles, Sime posted a 6-0 win in the first set but Bell also answered back to win the next two, 6-1, 6-4. Eskenazi played an impressive match at the number five position but fell just short in a 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 loss.

The Sharks return to action Tuesday afternoon when they host Babson at 4 p.m. at The Winsor School courts.
