Simmons Tennis Falls in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

AMHERST, Mass. -- Simmons tennis fell in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament to #17 ranked Skidmore College, 5-0 this afternoon at Amherst College.

Skidmore swept the doubles matches with Lee Ford and Natalya Mendoza defeating Allison Bodek (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.) 8-0 at the #1 position, Melissa Hirsch and Troi Engros defeating Andree Sime (Bradenton, Fla.) and Rachel Sweeney (Norfolk, Mass.) 8-1 at the #2 position and Alex Smith and Robyn Baird defeating Kristi Mielbye (Hanson, Mass.) and Erin Fontaine (Cohasset, Mass.) 8-0 at the #3 spot for a 3-0 lead.

In singles play, Delaney Scollan defeated Heather Rotti (Clinton, Mass.) at the #6 position 6-0, 6-2 and Mendoza defeated Bodek 6-2, 6-1 in the second spot to clinch the match for the Thoroughbreds, 5-0.

The Sharks complete their 2011-2012 season with an overall record of 15-6 and 9-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
