Simmons Tennis Claims Victory Over Wildcats 7-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. ? Simmons Tennis moved to 6-3 overall and 5-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Sunday with a win over the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats 7-2 in conference play. Shouldering the loss, the Wildcats fall to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the GNAC. Due to the potential for rain, the match was moved to the inside courts at MIT.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons tennis came from behind to defeat Springfield College 5-4 in non-conference play Saturday afternoon.

Shouldering the loss, the Wildcats fall to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the GNAC. Due to the potential for rain, the match was moved to the inside courts at MIT.

The Sharks dominated the doubles matches early. Allison Bodek (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) teamed up to defeat Andrea Sultan-Campbell and Samantha Jo Borr 8-1 in the #1 position. Leading by example, the Sharks #2 doubles team of Andree Sime (Bradenton, Fla.) and Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.) and the #3 doubles team of Kristi Mielbye (Hanson, Mass.) and Nicole Eskenazi (Goleta, Calif) defeated the Wildcats 8-1 in both matches for a sweep of the doubles.

Ahead 3-0, the singles matches secured the win for the Sharks. Salmela defeated Samantha Jo Borr 6-3, 6-0 in the #1 singles position, while Bodek was victorious over Sultan-Campbell for a second time in the day 6-3, 6-3 to take the #2 singles point. Sharks Eskenazi and Mielbye each recorded wins for the Sharks.

The Wildcats drew point in the # 3 singles match where Stephanie Piperis defeated Sime in a closely contested match, 7-5-7-6(5). Elizabeth Sammelbraun defeated Sharks freshman Heather Rotti (Clinton, Mass.) at #6 singles, 6-0, 6-2 for the added point.

The Sharks travel to Suffolk University on Wednesday, October 5th for a 6:30 p.m. match to be played at the BB&N School in Cambridge. The Wildcats will host Suffolk University on Saturday, October 8th at 12:00 p.m.
