Babson Tennis Topples Simmons, 6-3

Simmons Tennis fell to hosts Babson College, 6-3, in a non-conference match at the Farwell Courts on Tuesday afternoon. With their second straight win, the Beavers improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Sharks dropped to 0-2.

Simmons senior captain Maile Macleod (Carlsbad, Calif.) and junior captain Maggie Taylor (Yarmouth, Maine) came back from a 5-2 deficit to claim an 8-6 win at number two doubles for the Sharks, while senior captain Katy Hallinan (Maynard, Mass.) won her match by default at fourth singles. Junior Athena Lynch (Andover, Mass.) added a solid 6-4, 6-2 victory at number six.

Babson first-year Sarah Whitaker, junior captain Rebecca Stone, and sophomore Mikaela Stamas each recorded multiple wins for Babson. Whitaker and Stone teamed up to win their match at number one doubles, 8-2, while Stamas joined forces with sophomore Victoria Lorido on an 8-4 victory at number three.

In singles play, Simmons sophomore Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.) fell to Whitaker in a third-set superbreaker, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7), at number one, while Stone prevailed at two, 6-4, 6-3, and Stamas won at five, 6-3, 6-3. First-year Inna Loseva added a 6-4, 6-1 victory at number three to round out the Beavers' 6-3 overall win.

Simmons will next face off against Clark in the Sharks' home opener on Thursday, September 9 at 5:30pm.
