Sharks Defeated By Judges, 9-0

Simmons Tennis fell to the Brandeis Judges on Sunday, 9-0. In #1 singles, Simmons freshman Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.) gave Rachel Rosman plenty of trouble in the first set before Rosman, ranked #41 in the country, won the match 7-6, 6-0.

Simmons freshman Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.) earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday. Salmela, who has played #1 singles for the Sharks since beginning her collegiate career, had a good week against tough competition.

Junior Katy Hallinan (Maynard, Mass.), playing #4 singles, lost a close game to Brandeis' Emily Weisberger, driving the match to three sets after winning the second set, 6-4. Weisberger won the first and third sets (6-0, 10-8, respectively) to take the match.

Senior Jordan Borash (Marblehead, Mass.) played a heated game at #5 singles with Sarah Richman of Brandeis, before losing in 6-4, 6-4.

Simmons Tennis will travel to Pine Manor on Monday at 4:00pm to open Great Northeast Athletic Conference play for the Sharks.
