Simmons junior Maile Macleod (Carlsbad, Calif.) has been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week, and freshman Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.) was named GNAC Tennis Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday evening. This is the second POW honor for Macleod this season, while Salmela has swept ROW honors for each of the five weeks of the fall 2009 season.

The honors come after a week where Macleod was undefeated in the #2 singles spot, against Suffolk and Wesleyan. Macleod and Salmela also teamed up at #1 doubles for a victory against Suffolk.

"Maile Macleod continues to perform well despite rigorous competition," said Head Coach Bob Rauseo. "She now has straight set wins over two NESCAC foes, which is very impressive."

Salmela finished the week with a win at #1 singles over Suffolk, and a 6-0, 7-5 loss at #1 singles competing against Wesleyan.

"Sabrina Salmela has given the Sharks a legitimate chance to win every time out," said Rauseo. "She has played equally well with the lead or when trailing. This is a great sign looking forward."
