Simmons Tennis racked up another Great Northeast Athletic Conference win on Tuesday evening over Johnson and Wales, dropping only #1 doubles to the Wildcats as they sailed to an 8-1 victory. The Sharks improve to 6-3 overall, remaining an unbeaten 4-0 in the GNAC and taking the conference's #1 spot, while JWU falls to 2-5 overall, 1-2 GNAC.

After the completion of the doubles matches, Simmons was up 2-1 over the Wildcats after the Sharks' #2 team of sophomore Maggie Taylor (Yarmouth, Maine) and freshman Melissa Keroack (Falmouth, Maine) posted an 8-2 victory over Tammy Saunders and Aubrie Poe, and #3 doubles team of senior Jordan Borash (Marblehead, Mass.) and junior Katy Hallinan (Maynard, Mass.) earned an 8-2 defeat of JWU's Dana Trimborn and Amber Dea. Freshman Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.) and junior Maile Macleod (Carlsbad, Calif.), playing in the #1 spot for Simmons, fell to Haley Nutter and Laura Schwenk 8-4.

Simmons went on to sweep the singles competition.  Salmela and Macleod regrouped after their doubles loss to win #1 and #2 singles. Taylor, at #3 singles, finished with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Schwenk. Borash persevered through three sets to defeat Trimborn at #4 singles, 7-5, 4-6, 15-13. Sophomore Athena Lynch (Andover, Mass.) and Keroack rounded out the excellence on the courts for the Sharks, with wins at #5 and #6 singles, respectively.

Taylor, Borash and Keroack all won two matches each on the day, helping to clinch a decisive victory for the Sharks.

Simmons Tennis will play at home again on Thursday, October 1, when they host NEWMAC competitor Mount Holyoke College at 4:00pm.
