Tennis Wins GNAC Opener vs. Pine Manor, 9-0

Simmons Tennis opened fall 2009 Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Tuesday, traveling to Pine Manor College. The Sharks swept the Gators, 9-0, while the match featured the first collegiate career singles and doubles wins by sophomore transfer Brittany Dolloff (Hollis, N.H.) and freshman Veronica Nowakowski (Belchertown, Mass.).

The Sharks swept the Gators, 9-0, while the match featured the first collegiate career singles and doubles wins by sophomore transfer Brittany Dolloff (Hollis, N.H.) and freshman Veronica Nowakowski (Belchertown, Mass.).

Simmons freshman Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.) notched a win at #1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, against opponent Chelsea Swiger.  Senior captain Jordan Borash (Marblehead, Mass.) was victorious at #2 singles over PMC's Rennea Reid, 6-0, 6-0.

Dolloff and Nowakowski swept #3 and #4 singles, respectively, each with a score of 6-0, 6-0. The two then teamed up for a win at #2 doubles over PMC's Swiger and Mahalet Kassa, 8-1.

At #1 doubles, Salmela and junior captain Maile Macleod (Carlsbad, Calif.) paired to shut out the PMC duo of Lindsey Vaughn and Reid, 8-0.

The Sharks will compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III New England Regional Championships, held at MIT on Friday and Saturday (September 18-19). Start times will be announced later this week.
