Simmons College Tennis Defeats Johnson & Wales 6-3

The Simmons College tennis team traveled to Providence, R.I. to take on Johnson & Wales University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match up. The Sharks defeated Johnson & Wales 6-3, improving to 4-3 overall (GNAC 3-0).  Johnson & Wales is now 2-2 overall (GNAC 2-1).

The Simmons College tennis team traveled to Providence, R.I. to take on Johnson & Wales University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match up. The Sharks defeated Johnson & Wales 6-3, improving to 4-3 overall (GNAC 3-0).  Johnson & Wales is now 2-2 overall (GNAC 2-1).

"This is our biggest win of the season to date," said Head Coach Bob Rauseo.  "We now are the only undefeated team in the conference and, thus, control our own fate." 

Senior Jordan Borash (Marblehead, Mass.) and freshman Maggie Taylor (Yarmouth, Maine) went undefeated for the day.  Borash winning 8-3 at No. 3 doubles along side last week's GNAC Rookie of the Week, Athena Lynch (Andover, Mass.) and winning at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-4.  Taylor continuing her stellar rookie campaign, posted an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles along side fellow freshman Liza Pope (West Newbury, Mass.) and captured her second singles victory of the season, defeating Jessica Flammia 6-0, 6-1.   

 

Match Notes:
Sophomore Katy Hallinan (Lakeville, Mass.) won her third consecutive match of the season, defeating Jessica Cohen 6-0,6-0.  Hallinan has not allowed an opponent to win a single game in her last three matches. 

The Sharks return to action on Wednesday, September 24 at 4:00pm, away at UMass-Dartmouth.
