Four Simmons tennis players garnered GNAC Conference honors as announced by the GNAC Conference on Monday afternoon.  Sophomore Katy Hallinan (Lakeville, Mass.) was awarded First Team honors, while sophomore Maile Macleod (Carlsbad, Calif) and freshman Maggie Taylor (Yarmouth, Maine) were named to the Second Team. Senior Stacey Kohan (Milford, Conn.) was a conference Sportsmanship Team selection.

Hallinan spent most of her time on the courts as the Sharks No. 4 singles player.  Hallinan had an overall record of 10-5 and went 6-0 in conference play.  Hallinan's season was highlighted by notable wins against Babson, Brandeis and Smith.  Hallinan advanced to the third round of the B-Draw of the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament.

"Katy being named first team all-conference seemed very unlikely at the beginning of the season," said Head Coach Bob Rauseo. "She missed most of the first two weeks of the season due to injury and it was questionable whether she would play at all.  Although never 100% healthy, she still managed to go undefeated in the GNAC.  Her doggedness and determination separates her from most of her opponents."

Macleod was solid for Simmons all season, going 9-8 playing mostly at No. 3 singles.  She also pitched in at No. 1 and No. 2 singles when needed.  Macleod tallied notable wins against New England foes Clark, Colby, Connecticut College, and Mount Holyoke.  Macleod was also named to the GNAC All-Tournament Team.

"Maile had a great GNAC tournament, her win at #2 singles in the Championship match was our biggest win of the season.  She never gave up even after she saw a big lead turn into a deficit," said Rauseo.

Taylor, along with being named a Second Team All-Conference member, added GNAC All-Tournament honors to her already decorated rookie season.  Taylor was twice named the GNAC Rookie of the Week and to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll. Taylor, who was the No. 5 singles player for the Sharks compiled an outstanding 21-11 overall record on the year.  Taylor registered notable wins against Colby and Clark.  In doubles, Taylor went 11-6 with notables wins against Clark and UMass-Dartmouth.

"Maggie continued her dominance of the GNAC with a 6-1, 6-1 win vs. and Emerson and a 6-1, 6-0 win in the championship," said Rauseo.  "She also had two doubles wins with partner Liza Pope (West Newbury, Mass.)."

Kohan was named to the GNAC Sportsmanship team, awarded to student-athletes who through their actions in the competitive arena of intercollegiate athletics, have demonstrated one or more of the ideals of sportsmanship, including fairness, civility, honesty, unselfishness, respect and responsibility.

"Stacey is a great sportswoman," said Rauseo.  "She conducts herself with class and great sportsmanship both on and off the court.  She is a great asset to Simmons tennis and, more importantly, Simmons College."
