Simmons College sophomore Maile Macleod (Carlsbad, CA) has been named the GNAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced Tuesday.

Macleod helped lift the Sharks to a 2-1 record this week, with two conference wins over Pine Manor and Albertus Magnus College. The team also faced Colby College, and despite Macleod's #3 singles and #1 doubles win (with Dominica Hudcova) against the NESCAC opponent, the Sharks failed to pull through with a win.

"Maile's dual wins against Colby prove that she is up to the challenge no matter who she's playing," said Head Coach Bob Rauseo. "Despite moving up in the line-up and playing against very strong competition, she continues to win. More importantly, she continues to work hard and is still improving."

Macleod's record for the season so far is 6-3 overall. She is ranked seventh in the conference for #3 singles players, and seventh for #1 doubles, with partner Hudcova. Simmons now leads the GNAC Women's Tennis standings, with a conference record of 5-0 (7-4 overall).
