Tennis Serves Up a Win

Freshman Liza Pope (West Newbury, Mass.) was named the Greater Northeast Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week, after going a perfect 4-0 in her matches against Emmanuel and Emerson last week.

Simmons Tennis won their home opener on Wednesday in an 8-1 match against Clark University.

Eight different players notched victories for the Sharks. "It was a complete team victory today," said Head Coach Bob Rauseo.

Junior Dominika Hudcova (Malden, MA) saw her first career win as Simmons' #1 singles position, 6-1, 6-2.

The Simmons freshmen had a banner day, as all three took their doubles matches. Athena Lynch teamed with sophomore Samantha Bodine (Sterling, MA) to a 9-8 victory. Maggie Taylor (Yarmouth, ME) and Liza Pope (West Newbury, MA) teamed up to win their doubles match 8-1. Pope then continued on to win her singles match against Clark's Andrea Nathan 6-0, 6-0.

Other Sharks had successful outings on Wednesday; Stacey Kohan (Milford, CT) defeated Freddie Palmer 6-1, 6-2; Maile Macleod (Carlsbad, CA) defeated Emily Schweitzer 6-3, 6-1; Jordan Borash (Marblehead, MA) defeated Phoebe Livingston 6-2, 6-2.

The Sharks are now 1 – 1 overall.

Simmons Tennis returns to the courts on Saturday, September 6 at 1:00pm, away at Mount Holyoke College.
