Simmons Tennis dropped their first match of the season to Wheaton College Saturday, with a final score of 9-0.

Simmons Tennis dropped their first match of the season to Wheaton College Saturday, with a final score of 9-0.

Despite the loss, Head Coach Bob Rauseo was pleased with the match, which was "much closer than the final score shows."

Singles positions #3-#6 played a total of nine sets, and each one was decided by two games or less.

Freshmen Maggie Taylor (Yarmouth, ME) and Liza Pope (West Newbury, MA) both fought hard for their singles matches. Pope lost 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, in a match that went almost three hours. Taylor, in the fourth spot, lost 6-4, 7-5, in a match that lasted almost two hours.

Sophomore Maile MacLeod (Carlsbad, CA) showed grit in her season debut, losing a tough 6-4, 6-4 match.

The Tennis team will face their next opponent, Clark University, at home on Wednesday, September 3 at 4:00pm.
