WALTHAM, Mass. - The Simmons College women's basketball team was defeated by host Brandeis College, 72-38, this evening at Red Auerbach Arena in Waltham, Mass. The Sharks fall to 1-3 on the season, while the Judges improve to 4-2.

Sophomore forward Presley Silva (Wilmington, Mass.) and senior guard Gracie Rolfe (Newton, Mass.) each netted 10 points to lead Simmons. Silva also added four rebounds, two assists and a steal, while Rolfe grabbed six rebounds and handed out two assists. First year guard Francesca Corsinetti (Johnston, R.I.) chipped in with six points for the Sharks, while junior guard Jamie Zoldy (Watertown, Conn.) led all players with five assists to go with three points and a rebound.

Junior forward Sydney Sodine (Dix Hills, N.Y.) led the way in scoring with 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor for Brandeis. Ten of her points came in the first half, six in the second quarter. Sodine also had six rebounds and tied for game-high honors with four steals. Junior Frankie Pinto (San Clemente, Calif.) added 12 points – eight in the first half – and connected on three 3-pointers. Sophomore Noel Hodges (Southampton, N.Y.) also reached double digits in scoring, notching nine of her 11 points in the second half. She tied for team-high honors with four assists. Emma Curnin (Topsham, Maine) was just shy of a double-double with eight points and a game-high eight rebounds, both career-bests.

Simmons struggled to just 19% (4-21) shooting from the floor in the first half and found itself trailing, 41-11, at the intermission. The Sharks shook off their shooting woes in the third quarter, scoring nine of the first 13 points of the period, behind five points from Rolfe to close to within 45-20 with 4:39 left in the quarter. Rolfe later canned a three-pointer to keep the deficit at 52-27 with 1:22 to go in the period, but it was as close as Simmons would get for the contest, despite shooting 46.7% (7-15) from the floor in the quarter.

The Sharks look to bounce back at home on Thursday, December 3at 7:00 p.m. against Fisher College at Moore Gymnasium, while Brandeis returns to action on December 5 at 1:00 p.m. when it travels to Johnson and Wales University.
