Sharks Fall to Bobcats, 84-55

CASTINE, Maine ? First year Kim Hixon (Taunton, Mass.) scored a team-high 14 points in the Sharks 84-55 loss to the Bates College Bobcats in the consolation game of the Mariner Pepsi Challenge in Smith Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Simmons Sharks defeated the Anna Maria AMCATS, 51-48, snapping a six-game losing streak and picking up their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory of the season Monday evening at the Holmes Sports Center.

CASTINE, Maine – First year Kim Hixon (Taunton, Mass.) scored a team-high 14 points in the Sharks 84-55 loss to the Bates College Bobcats in the consolation game of the Mariner Pepsi Challenge in Smith Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats (1-1) registered the game's first 13 points and did not allow the Sharks (0-2) to cut their deficit below double figures for the remainder of the game in a tournament hosted by Maine Maritime Academy.

Simmons first years Jamie Zoldy (Watertown, Conn.) registered 10 points and senior Hannah May (Hamden, Conn.) added seven points and five rebounds for the Sharks. 

Junior center Allaina Murphy (Poland Spring, Maine) recorded her first career double-double with career highs in points (19) and rebounds (10) as she went 7-for-7 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line.

First-year Allie Coppola (Tarrytown, N.Y.) notched the first double-double of her rookie campaign on 10 points and 12 rebounds while junior Kristin Calvo (South Deerfield, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points, and senior Julia Rafferty (Reading, Mass.) led all players with seven assists.

Bates scored 13 unanswered points to open the contest and maintained at least an 11-point advantage for the remainder of the contest, including a 10-0 run midway through the first half to take a 30-9 lead with just under eight minutes left in the opening stanza.

Coming out of halftime with a 40-21 edge, the Bobcats built a 57-27 lead at the 14:55 mark of the second half with Kelly and Murphy accounting for all of the points during the 17-6 run. Bates captured its largest lead of the game at 77-44 with a shade less than five minutes remaining.
