O'Connor Records Double-Double as Sharks Fall to Falcons in GNAC Action

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Senior Liz O'Connor (Milton, Mass.) scored her seventh double-double of the season but the visiting Simmons Sharks fell to Albertus Magnus, 67-53 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest Tuesday evening. Tonight?s victory gives Albertus a 6-4 mark in GNAC play, while Simmons falls to 4-16 on the year and 2-8 in conference action.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Senior Liz O'Connor (Milton, Mass.) scored her seventh double-double of the season but the visiting Simmons Sharks fell to Albertus Magnus, 67-53 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest Tuesday evening. Tonight's victory gives Albertus a 6-4 mark in GNAC play, while Simmons falls to 4-16 on the year and 2-8 in conference action.

The Falcons opened with a 13-0 run, until Simmons junior Desh Perera (Reading, Mass.) put the Sharks on the board six minutes and 40 seconds into the frame. Junior Hannah May (Hamden, Conn.) and Olivia LaCroix (Manchester, N.H.) added eight points a piece, while Leah Davis (Cranston, R.I.) came off the bench to add eight of her own. The Falcons shot 43.3% from the field in the opening half, including a 40% clip from behind the arc. 

Annie Sutila, who finished 6-of-16 from the floor and 5-of-13 from behind the arc, tallied 17 points to lead the Falcons. Senior Kendrea Walker added 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds and Annie Raucci chipped in with her fourth double-double of the season.

Albertus went into the break with a 36-21 lead, its largest advantage of the first half. Simmons shot 25.9% from the floor in the first and hit four of nine attempts from the free-throw line.

Freshman Jen Janiak (Chelmsford, Mass.) hit a three pointer 38 seconds to open the second half for the Sharks, but the Falcons played strong defense, holding Simmons scoreless for 8:31 during the opening 10 minutes of the frame. Albertus converted 21 points off 21 Simmons' turnovers, while the Sharks edged the Falcons in rebounds 47-46.

The Falcons will host Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Thursday, February 14th at 5:30 p.m. in their final home regular-season contest of the season. The Sharks will travel to Suffolk University on the same date at 7:00 p.m. Both games were rescheduled from Saturday, February 9th.
