Saints Trump Sharks in Fenway Showdown, 66-31

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Basketball led by 13 points at the half and held on to edge the Pine Manor College Gators, 78-74 for their first win of the 2012-2013 season Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Sports Center.

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Wesleyan University Cardinals took a 9-0 lead to start the first half and never trailed, defeating the Simmons College Sharks, 57-42 Tuesday evening in non-conference action at the Holmes Sports Center.

STANDISH, ME ? Saint Joseph?s College (8-6, 2-1 GNAC) toppled Simmons College (2-10, 0-2 GNAC), 74-46, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women?s basketball contest at the Harold Alfond Center on Tuesday night. Senior guard Danyelle Shufelt netted a game-high 20 points, including 18 in the first half, in the one-sided triumph.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. ? Junior guard Devon Diliberto scored a season-high 25 points and the University of Saint Joseph basketball team pulled away in the second half Saturday in an 81-55 GNAC victory over the Simmons Sharks at the O?Connell Center.

The Sharks (4-15, 2-7 GNAC) took a 5-2 lead early in the first half off a jumper by Liz O'Connor (Milton, Mass.) and a Hannah May (Hamden, Conn.) three-pointer. The Saints found the net less than 20 seconds later off jump shots by Jennifer Bujnowski and Britni Mikulanecz and never trailed again.

 

Emmanuel (17-5, 9-0 GNAC) shot 41.9% from the floor with Bujnowski leading all Saints with 12 points. Liz Daley added 11 points and senior Fiona O'Dwyer and freshman Sarah Higgins each added nine.

 

Down 37-10 after the first half, the Sharks played a strong second stanza as freshman Jen Janiak (Chelmsford, Mass.) hit two three pointers and O'Connor recorded four defensive rebounds. But the Saints were relentless with Higgins coming off the bench to score seven points and Laura Benvenuto adding seven of her own to remain undefeated in GNAC action.

 

The Sharks return to the court on Saturday, February 9th at Suffolk University at 1:00 p.m.
