BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons basketball fell to the #1 ranked Emmanuel College Saints, 66-31 in a Fenway neighborhood matchup Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.
The Sharks (4-15, 2-7 GNAC) took a 5-2 lead early in the first half off a jumper by Liz O'Connor (Milton, Mass.) and a Hannah May (Hamden, Conn.) three-pointer. The Saints found the net less than 20 seconds later off jump shots by Jennifer Bujnowski and Britni Mikulanecz and never trailed again.
Emmanuel (17-5, 9-0 GNAC) shot 41.9% from the floor with Bujnowski leading all Saints with 12 points. Liz Daley added 11 points and senior Fiona O'Dwyer and freshman Sarah Higgins each added nine.
Down 37-10 after the first half, the Sharks played a strong second stanza as freshman Jen Janiak (Chelmsford, Mass.) hit two three pointers and O'Connor recorded four defensive rebounds. But the Saints were relentless with Higgins coming off the bench to score seven points and Laura Benvenuto adding seven of her own to remain undefeated in GNAC action.
The Sharks return to the court on Saturday, February 9th at Suffolk University at 1:00 p.m.
