Rams Outlast Sharks 54-41

CAMBRIDGE, MA ?Simmons picked up their second win of the year as the Sharks defeated Lesley University 76-34, in non-conference women?s basketball action Wednesday night at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The Sharks (2-8) shot 54 percent from three-point range in the first half, opening up a 43-19 halftime lead on 7-13 shooting from deep.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons basketball fell to the Suffolk University Rams 54-41 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play Wednesday evening at the Holmes Sports Center. The Rams' Mary Garon lead all players with 19 points and nine rebounds to move the Suffolk to 11-5 overall and 4-1 in the GNAC.

The first half saw several lead changes and strong play by Simmons senior Liz O'Connor (Milton, Mass.) who recorded seven points and five defensive rebounds for the Sharks. Teammate Leah Davis (Cranston, R.I.) added seven points off the bench, keeping the score within six to end the half, 27-21.

Suffolk's Meghan Black went five for eight from the line, picking up nine points as the Ram's controlled the ball early in the second. The Sharks tied the game at 32 with 14:30 left to play but with Simmons turnovers and a quick Rams transition game, Suffolk went ahead and did not relinquish the lead again.

With the loss, the Sharks fall to 3-12 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Simmons returns to the court on Saturday, January 21st when the team travels to Lasell for another GNAC conference match up at 1:00 p.m. The Rams host Norwich University on the same date at 1:00 p.m.
