Falcons Claw Past Sharks, 68-48

The Simmons Basketball team will start the 2011-2012 season under a new head coach, former WNBA standout Kristen Rasmussen Tarr. After a disappointing 2010-2011 campaign of 9-14, the Sharks will look to a strong returning class to flip their record and be a contender in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference this season.

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Fitchburg State University Falcons remained undefeated as they clawed past the Sharks 68-48 in non-conference action Thursday evening at the Holmes Sports Center. Amy Fahey posted a game high 27 points to lead the Falcons to their sixth straight win of the season.

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Fitchburg State University Falcons remained undefeated as they clawed past the Sharks 68-48 in non-conference action Thursday evening at the Holmes Sports Center. Amy Fahey posted a game high 27 points to lead the Falcons to their sixth straight win of the season.

The first half started quietly as the two teams tested the waters on each end of the court. Sharks senior Jessica Thomas (Sandwich, Mass.) connected with Brittany Dolloff (Hollis, N.H) who went 3-4 from the 3-point line and posting 11 on the evening. But the Falcons Meaghan Secino recorded 11 to help put Fitchburg State up by 18 at the half, 36-18.

Sharks sophomore Hannah May (Hamden, Conn.) dominated the floor in the second half, going 4-9 in 3-pointers and posting 13 points to bring Simmons within ten. The Falcons would not back down, with Fahey sinking 11-20 and adding three defensive rebounds to secure the win. Rebecca Gorham added 11 defensive rebounds and nine points and three different Falcons forced four steals.

The Sharks (1-5) return to action on Wednesday, December 7th at home against UMass Dartmouth at 7:00 p.m. The Falcons (6-0) travel to Emerson College on Saturday, December 3rd for a 12:00 p.m. game.
