BOSTON, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Corsairs took an early lead and never looked back as they defeated the Simmons Sharks 68-38 on a rainy Wednesday evening at the Holmes Sports Center.

The Corsairs were strong in the opening minutes with flawless passing and converting on their opportunities. UMD's Kelsey Garrity dominated the floor leading both teams with 17 points and posting eight defensive rebounds. Teammate Nicole Grassi added 11, while Erika Bornemann recorded four offensive rebounds. The Corsairs led at the half 37-12.

The Sharks brought new life in the second half with Simmons' Liz O'Connor (Milton, Mass.) dropping a three-pointer. O'Connor finished with a team-high 16 points while Alex Acloque (Randolph, Mass.), Brittany Dolloff (Hollis, N.H.), and Shae Riley (Sanford, Maine) each added five. The Sharks shot 60% from the free throw line, but it was not enough as UMD outshot the Sharks 31-26 in the second half to win, 68-38.

With the win, the Corsairs move to 5-3 on their season while the Sharks fall to 1-6. UMD hosts Plymouth State on December 10th at 1:00 p.m. for their second conference match up. The Sharks travel to MIT on December 30th for a 1:00 start.
