BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Basketball fell to the Saint Joseph College Blue Jays 77-64 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Sports Center. The Blue Jays went 31-60 from the floor and shot 61% from the line to move to 9-3 Overall and 2-1 in GNAC competition.

Blue Jays Mary Hyde went 8 for 14 and picked up six rebounds as she led all players with 17 points. Heather Framski and Claire Consonni each added 16 points. Devon Diliberto was tenacious down low and Shauna Sullivan's consistent play cause the Sharks defense to fumble. The Blue Jays went into halftime with a commanding 40-24 lead.

Simmons freshman Shae Riley (Sanford, Maine) had a breakout game, posting a season high 15 points and adding nine rebounds. Sophomore Hannah May (Hamden, Conn.) came up big, hitting three for six from behind the arc to give her 13 points on the day.

Liz O'Connor (Milton, Mass.) and Alex Acloque (Randolph, Mass.) each recorded seven offensive rebounds keeping the game close in the second half.

The Sharks outscored the Blue Jays in the second half, 40-37 but the deficit from the first half was too much to make up. With the loss, the Sharks move to 2-11 overall, and 0-3 in the GNAC.

Simmons returns to the court on Monday, January 16th when they travel to GNAC conference rival Anna Maria for a 7:00 p.m. game. The Blue Jays host Emmanuel College on the same date for a 1:00 p.m. start.
