BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Basketball fell to the undefeated Saint Joseph's College of Maine Monks 72-38 Thursday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. The Monks, led tonight by Danyelle Shufelt with 15 points, move to 12-6 overall and 6-0 in the GNAC.
In the first half, Ashley Geel went three for three in the paint to get the Monks on the board. Teammate Megan McDevitt added a three and finished the half with seven points.
Sharks sophomore Hannah May (Hamden, Conn.) went two for three from behind the arc and Liz O'Connor (Milton, Mass.) added eight points to end the half 33-18.
The Monks found their rhythm in the second half shooting 57% from the floor. Geel added four in the second to finish with 12 points and eight rebounds while McDevitt posted five for a total of 13 on the evening. Alyssa Grigware added seven rebounds and Sarah Assante was seven for ten from the line.
Simmons senior Alex Acloque (Randolph, Mass.) picked up eight rebounds for the Sharks and May and O'Connor ended the game with 12 points apiece.
The Sharks return to the court on Saturday, January 28th when they travel to rival Emmanuel for a 1:00 start. The Monks host Suffolk University on the same date and time for more GNAC action.
