Sharks Edge Leopards for First Win, 53-50

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Basketball went up by one in the final minute of play against the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards (0-4) and held on to win their home opener 53-50 at the Holmes Sports Center Monday evening. Sharks freshman Olivia LaCroix (Manchester, N.H.) made two crucial free throws with less than 30 seconds remaining to increase the lead to three as Simmons recorded its first win of the season.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Basketball went up by one in the final minute of play against the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards (0-4) and held on to win their home opener 53-50 at the Holmes Sports Center Monday evening. Sharks freshman Olivia LaCroix (Manchester, N.H.) made two crucial free throws with less than 30 seconds remaining to increase the lead to three as Simmons recorded its first win of the season.

The Sharks, who move to 1-4 overall, trailed early as the Leopards showcased their talents around the floor. Wentworth's Kendra Kerr lead all players with 21 points on the evening and played all 40 minutes. Ashley Conway added 12 points for the Leopards who held a seven-point lead at the half, 28-21.

LaCroix burried18 points for the Sharks and recorded two steals, while sophomores Leah Davis (Cranston, R.I.) added nine and Hannah May (Hamden, Conn.) added eight. Alex Acloque (Randolph, Mass.) and Liz O'Connor (Milton, Mass.) each had three offensive rebounds for the Sharks.

The Blue and Gold outshot the Leopards by 10 in the second half, 32-22, and shot 50% from the line.

The Sharks return to action on Thursday, December 1st at home against Fitchburg State at 7:00 p.m., while the Leopards host University of New England on November 30th at 7:00 p.m.
