Falcons Fly By Sharks 68-49

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. ? A 36-13 run during the final 10 minutes of regulation powered MIT?s 69-65 come-from-behind victory over Simmons College in a non-conference women?s basketball game on Friday afternoon. Freshman Mari Kordell (Ijamsville, Md.) led all scorers with 23 points as the Engineers improved to 7-3 on the year. Senior Brittany Dolloff (Hollis, N.H.), one of four Sharks to reach double-digits in scoring, posted 15 points and four steals for the visitors (1-7).

The Falcons took control early, denying the Sharks of a point until five minutes into the half. Bianca Brown went four for eight from the field and added six defensive rebounds while teammate Sarah Boudreau added seven from the paint.

Simmons freshman Olivia LaCroix (Manchester, N.H.) scored the Sharks' first seven points and finished the first half with nine. Junior Liz O'Connor added four while battling down low for position.

With one minute to play in the half, Falcons Annie Sutila dropped a three as Albertus Magnus went into halftime leading 36-15.

The Sharks found new life in the second half with sophomore Hannah May (Hamden, Conn.) adding eight points and teammates Jessica Thomas (Sandwich, Mass.) and Alex Acloque (Randolph, Mass.) each posting six.

Tenacious play by LaCroix caused three timely turnovers with O'Connor capitalizing, adding to her total of 12 for the evening. The Sharks outscored the Falcons in second half 34-32 but it was not enough as Albertus Magnus went on to win 68-49. The Sharks fall to 3-16 overall and 1-8 in the GNAC.

Simmons returns to action on Saturday, February 4th when the team travels to GNAC rival Rivier for a 1:00 p.m. contest. The Falcons host GNAC foe Emmanuel on the same date and time.
