Freshman Troiano Stars on Senior Day, Sharks Best Blue Jays, 69-54

Simmons Basketball?s freshman guard Meaghan Troiano (Norwood, Mass.) had a breakout day in Simmons? victory over Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Saint Joseph Connecticut, scoring a game- and career-high double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds from the bench. Seniors Aubree Giarrosso (Rockport, Mass.), Julianna Eagles (Quincy, Mass.) and Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) capped their last home game of the regular season with the win, boosting the Sharks to a 14-8 overall record (6-4 GNAC). With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 4-18 (0-10 GNAC).

The Sharks maintained control of the game throughout the afternoon, outscoring the Blue Jays 42-33 in the first half, and 27-21 in the second. Sophomore guard Jessica Thomas (East Sandwich, Mass.) had a strong showing, with all 15 points coming from beyond the three-point line. Fox hit a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, with four steals.

Saint Joseph's Samantha Royce led the visitors with 16 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Nathalie Masterreno was good for 12 points and seven assists, while teammate Ilaria Schiano chipped in 10 points.

Simmons will close out the regular season with two more GNAC contests on the road. The Sharks will travel to Rivier College on Tuesday, February 16 for a 7:00pm game, and to Lasell College on Saturday, February 20 for a 1:00pm tip-off.
