Sharks Strike Lions, 60-49

Simmons Basketball extended their win streak to three games with a victory over non-conference Eastern Nazarene, 60-49, on Tuesday night at the Holmes Sports Center. Senior forward Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) hit a double double of 22 points and 11 rebounds to sneak within 20 points of joining the Sharks? 1,000 career points club. With the win, Simmons extends their record to 12-5 overall, and remain 4-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, while the Lions fall to 7-10 overall (1-4 TCCC).

After a sloppy opening in which Simmons had seven turnovers in the first five minutes, the Sharks began to hit their stride and pulled ahead in the eighth minute to retain the lead for the remainder of the night.

Fox, who also recorded four assists and six blocks, and shot 9-9 from the free throw line, was backed up by 11 points from sophomore guard Jessica Thomas (East Sandwich, Mass.), and eight points and 10 boards from freshman forward Emily Thomas (Cheshire, Conn.).

The Lions' Jessica Schoppee scored 18 points and had 6 rebounds on the night, while teammate Shardae Brown tallied eight points and nine assists. Alexis Malloy also chipped in 6 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

The Sharks will face off against neighboring GNAC rival Emmanuel College on Thursday, January 28 at 5:30pm, at the Saints' Jean Yawkey Center.
