Sharks Felled By Falcons, 57-52

Jessica Thomas (East Sandwich, Mass.), Julianna Eagles (Quincy, Mass.) and Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) all scored 16 points en route to Simmons? 74-52 victory over Johnson State in the Elms Tip-Off Consolation game, after falling to MCLA (71-65) in the tournament?s first round Friday evening.

Simmons Basketball suffered their second straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference loss at the hand of Albertus Magnus College, 57-52, Tuesday night at the Holmes Sports Center. Senior guard Julianna Eagles (Quincy, Mass.) scored a game-high 19 points, but it wasn?t enough to help the Sharks to push past the Falcons for the win. With the defeat, Simmons falls to 13-8 overall, 5-4 GNAC, while Albertus improves to 10-12, 6-3 GNAC.

Falcons junior center Kenrea Walker led her team with 14 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, followed by freshman guard Shanilya Bush with 12 points and six rebounds. The athletic Falcons team was also boosted by Bianca Brown, with eight points and nine rebounds.

The Sharks' Eagles, senior forward Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) and freshman forward Emily Thomas (Cheshire, Conn.) shot a perfect 100% from the free throw line and played gamely in the second half, however, Simmons couldn't put together a solid first half, making just 20% of attempted field goals before the intermission. Thomas tallied 12 points on the night, while Fox chipped in 11 points, nine rebounds and three steals.

Simmons will close play their final regular season home game on Saturday, February 13 at 1:00pm against conference foe Saint Joseph College of Connecticut. The Sharks will celebrate Senior Day for Aubree Giarrosso, Eagles and Fox before tip-off.
