Sharks Routed by Corsairs, 61-51

Simmons Basketball was foiled by UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday night, falling to the Corsairs 61-51. Senior Julianna Eagles (Quincy, Mass.) posted 15 points for the Sharks, but it wasn?t enough to counter the aggressive play of the Corsairs. With the loss, Simmons falls to 4-3, while UMass advances to 3-5 on the season.

Senior Julianna Eagles (Quincy, Mass.) posted 15 points for the Sharks, but it wasn't enough to counter the aggressive play of the Corsairs. With the loss, Simmons falls to 4-3, while UMass advances to 3-5 on the season.

After a frantic first half, in which UMass dominated the first ten minutes of play, the Sharks were able to catch up with some sharp free throws by Jessica Thomas and more controlled play from Eagles and senior Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.). Simmons ended the first half with a 28-25 advantage over the Corsairs.

UMass did not give up the fight, and gradually pressed ahead of Simmons, taking a 36-23 second half advantage, and ending the evening with a 61-51 final score.

Junior Lynley DeAmato, who was 6-6 in free throws, scored 23 points on the night to lead the Corsairs. Junior Tashuana Ashmeade chipped in 14, while Kaylin Nelson grabbed 10 boards.

Simmons will return from the holiday break with a trip to NJCU on December 29 at 4:00pm, and John Jay on December 30 at 2:00pm.
