Basketball’s Fox Named NEWBA Player of the Week

Junior forward Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) scored 27 points and totaled 9 rebounds in Simmons Basketball?s win over Albertus Magnus on Saturday, 81-62. With the victory, Simmons advances to 13-6 overall and 4-2 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, while Albertus Magnus falls to 6-11 overall, 1-6 GNAC.

Junior forward Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) was named Player of the Week by the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) for the week of January 26-February 1. This marks the first time a Simmons College Basketball athlete has ever received this award from NEWBA.

In a 3-0 week for the Sharks, Fox averaged 21.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per outing. She shot 58.7% (27-46) from the field, 77.8% (7-9) from the free throw line and was a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. The forward totaled five blocked shots, eight steals and five assists.

Fox exploded for 27 points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists in the Sharks 81-62 triumph over Albertus Magnus College on Saturday. She helped Simmons to a 55-38 win over Eastern Nazarene College on Tuesday, when she tallied 18 points, six boards and a pair of blocks. She followed that with 20 points, six rebounds, three blocks and three steals in the Sharks 69-52 victory over Pine Manor College on Thursday.

"Having Stephanie recognized for her stellar play by NEWBA is great not only for Simmons, but the entire GNAC conference," said Head Coach Tony Price. "Stephanie is by far one of the top highly skilled players in the New England Region and the honor is well deserved."
