Basketball Tops UMass Dartmouth, 60-47

Simmons Basketball defeated the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 60-47, in a non-conference away game Thursday evening. The Sharks used a 10-4 run midway through the second half to break a 39-39 tie and take an eight-point lead, eventually coming away with the win. Simmons improves to 4-1 overall, while UMass Dartmouth falls to 2-4.

Simmons improves to 4-1 overall, while UMass Dartmouth falls to 2-4.

The teams battled back and forth in the first half. Senior guard Lauren Kreckie (Braintree, Mass.) tied the game with a pair of free throws, and junior guard Julianna Eagles (Quincy, Mass.) hit a three-pointer just before the buzzer to give the Sharks a 29-26 lead at halftime.

Junior forward Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) led Simmons with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Kreckie and Sarah Clayton (Falmouth, Mass.) each scored 13 points. The Sharks out-rebounded the Corsairs, 39-33, and made 12 of 14 free throws to their opponent's two of nine.

The Sharks return to action on Saturday, December 6 when they host Smith College at 2:00pm at the Holmes Sports and Fitness Center.
