Cohen Earns Pro Camp Invitation

While her career at Simmons may be over, senior basketball player Nikki Cohen is hoping that basketball won't stop being a major part of her life. While her career at Simmons may be over, senior basketball player Nikki Cohen is hoping that basketball won't stop being a major part of her life. Cohen, who will graduate in May, has been invited to a professional tryout in New England this summer in hopes of catching someone's eye and earning a contract, likely with a European team.

"For Nikki to be invited to a pro free agent camp is quite the honor , it's something she never really thought about or possible, because she did not put up huge numbers or was selected as an All American, but its' a wonderful opportunity," said Simmons head coach Tony Price. Cohen, a 6-4 center had a solid season for the Sharks this year leading the team in blocked shots, and finishing third on the team in rebounds.

She will be competing this June in the Coates Sports Management Pro Exposure Camp which will take place in the Boston area. College athletes from around the country will be participating, provided they received an invitation. Price is thrilled for Cohen's opportunity, and hopes it serves as a reminder to everyone else that opportunities can come at any level.

"The invitation just goes to show that big opportunities can from small places (DIII) if you put in the time, work and play hard, people will notice," said Price. "I'm not sure how this will turnout for Nikki, but what a dream come true for her to get the chance to compete for a professional contract overseas, I wish her nothing but the best and I'm sure she will train hard to get ready for the camp, that's just the way she has always been."
