Sharks Win Streak Comes to an End

The Simmons College basketball team dropped a tough one Tuesday night to Johnson & Wales 80-66 in the home finale. The game was a close affair throughout, but as the game wore on fouls mounted, and the game turned into a free throw contest that the home team wasn't invited to.

Simmons was whistled for 18 fouls in the second half, and Johnson & Wales shot 40 free throws for the game, to Simmons' 12. Unfortunately for Simmons the visitors took advantage of the freebies shooting 80 percent (32-40) from the line. The biggest beneficiary of that was Alexia Ramirez who tallied a game high 29 points including 18-19 at the foul line. Forward Alyse Ragaglia had a great night pouring in 27 points, including 21 in the first half.

Simmons jumped out to an early 11 point lead, and held a tenuous 39-37 lead at halftime but in the second half the Wildcats simply played better. Fouls mounted against the Sharks who had three starters foul out, and their offensive production diminished. Sophomore Stephanie Fox led the Sharks with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Lauren Kreckie (11 points) and Sarah Clayton (10 points) each turned in solid performances as well.

The Sharks are back in action on the road Saturday when they travel to Rivier for a 3 p.m. game.
