Capello Named GNAC Softball Coach of the Year, Castigliego Tabbed Top Rookie; Seven Named All-ConferenceMay 07, 2019WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University’s Brook Capello (Hanover, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Coach of the Year, while Maddie Castigliego (Bristol, R.I.) was selected the league’s Rookie of the Year. In addition, six Sharks were named to seven spots on the All-Conference squad, it was announced by the GNAC.

Softball Defeats Saint Joseph's (Maine), 5-3, in GNAC TournamentMay 04, 2019BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons University softball team saw every member of its starting line-up reach base via a hit or walk in a 5-3 victory over Saint Joseph’s College (Maine) this afternoon to stay alive in an elimination game of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament played at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 21-22 on the season, while the Monks finish their season at 13-23. Simmons advances to play Emmanuel College (Mass.) in the loser’s bracket final at 3:00 p.m.

Castigliego, Mulhern Give Softball 3-2 Win Over Emmanuel To Advance To GNAC Championship GameMay 04, 2019BOSTON, Mass. – First year starting pitcher Maddie Castigliego (Bristol, R.I.) allowed just one earned run over nine innings and classmate Allie Mulhern (Westford, Mass.) blooped a run-scoring single to give the Simmons University softball team a walk-off 3-2 victory over Emmanuel College (Mass.) in the loser’s bracket final of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament this afternoon at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks even their record at 22-22 and advance to the GNAC Championship game for the first time since 2014 with their first-ever post-season victory over Emmanuel. The Saints end their season with a 25-14 mark.

Simmons Softball Falls in GNAC Championship to Saint Joseph (Conn.), 3-0May 04, 2019BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons University softball team was shut out by University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), 3-0, this evening in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks finish their campaign at 22-23, while the Blue Jays have won six straight and 10 of their last 12 to improve to 27-17 on the season. USJ earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship Tournament following the first shutout in the GNAC Championship game since 2013 and its first crown since 2000.

Vann Leads Simmons Softball over Suffolk, 8-1, in GNAC TournamentMay 03, 2019BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore left fielder Ivy Vann (Bend, Ore.) hit a home run and drove in three runs, while the pitching staff allowed just one run to fuel the Simmons University softball team in an 8-1 victory over Suffolk University this evening in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 20-22, while the Rams conclude their season at 21-18. Simmons advances to play the GNAC North Division number three seed Saint Joseph’s College (Maine) tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. at Daly Field. The Monks advanced with a 3-2 win over South Division number three seed Johnson & Wales University.

The Sharks end the regular season with a 19-21 overall mark and had their nine-game winning streak snapped in the second game as they fell to 13-3 in league play, while the Cadets end the regular slate at 14-14 and 8-8.

The Sharks took the opener, 7-3, before the Saints rebounded with a 7-4 win in the nightcap. Simmons is now 4-16 on the season, while Emmanuel is 5-9.

Softball Swept by Brandeis, 11-9, 9-6March 24, 2019BOSTON, Mass. -- Sophomore left fielder Ivy Vann (Bend, Ore.) collected four hits, including a home run and knocked in three runs to lead the Simmons University softball team, which was swept by Brandeis University in a doubleheader, dropping the opener in nine innings, 11-9, before losing the second game, 9-6, this today at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The twinbill was originally scheduled to be played at host Brandeis in Waltham, but was moved to Daly Field due to unplayable conditions in Waltham. The Sharks fall to 3-15 on the season, while the Judges improve to a perfect 8-0.

The Sharks fall to 3-11 on the season, while the Engineers, who are ranked in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, run their win streak to nine straight, for their longest streak since an 11-game string in 2009, and improve to 11-2 on the season.
