Holmes Sports Center Facility Rules and Policies

Holmes Sports Center facility rules and policies (current as of September 1, 2022)

  • All facility users and visitors must check in at the front desk with a Simmons ID, Sports Center membership card, or be a facility rental group participant. 

  • Guests of current Simmons University students, faculty, and staff or members must purchase a guest pass and present a state-issued photo ID or passport to use the facilities.

  • Members and guests assume all risks for personal injury or damage .

  • Members and guests must be at least 18 years of age to enter the facility, unless they are a current Simmons University student or employee, part of a facility rental group or Simmons University program, or are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

  • Members and guests are prohibited from:

    • Attempting to gain access into the Holmes Sports Center with an ID other than their own

    • Allowing another person to use their ID to gain access into the Holmes Sports Center

    • Exiting through emergency exit doors during a non-emergency

  • Proper sport-specific clothing is required at all times. If an individual does not have the proper clothing or shoes, they will not be permitted to participate in that specific activity area. Shirts must be worn at all times.

  • Shoes should be non-marking and free of mud and debris. Closed toe shoes are required while working out in the cardio area, weight room, and gymnasium.

  • Exercises and activities that may endanger you or others are strictly prohibited; Sports Center staff have the right to stop any activity that they deem to be unsafe.

  • Sports Center staff are responsible for setting up and taking down volleyball equipment, and raising and/or lowering basketball backboards. Only authorized personnel will be permitted to access this equipment.

  • All equipment must remain in its designated location and should never leave the room it is in.

  • All equipment must be returned to the appropriate location, and all weights must be re-racked.

  • Collars must be used for all free weight bars.

  • Weights should not be dropped or banged; participants are encouraged to always maintain control while exercising.

  • Machines and equipment should not be moved or modified in any way and should be used for its intended purpose; do not add more than the recommended amount of weight to any piece of weight equipment.

  • Day use lockers must be cleaned out on a nightly basis. Simmons University has no responsibility for any items left in a locker or elsewhere in the facility, including for lost, stolen, or damaged items.

  • A photo ID card is required to borrow any equipment from the front desk. All equipment must be returned at the end of the day.

  • All beverages must be in a non-glass container with a proper lid. Food may only be consumed in the lobby areas of the building.

  • No smoking, vaping, possession or use of illegal drugs, use of chewing tobacco, or drinking alcohol is permitted in the Holmes Sports Center.

  • Please wipe down all equipment with the provided spray bottles and paper towels after use. 

  • No photos or videos may be taken in the facility without express written consent from the Holmes Sports Center management. Filming or photography for class projects, group practices, newspapers, articles, and all other media must abide by this policy.

  • All photography/videotaping must be done using care for patrons and personal privacy must be respected. If patrons can be identified in any shot, their explicit permission must be obtained. Participants have a right to decline being in any shot.

  • Cell phones may not be used in any locker room or bathroom facility.

  • Headphones must be used when listening to any music or audio from a phone, tablet, or computer.

  • Requests for approval to post flyers, signs or posters should be directed to the Associate Director of Recreation & Wellness.

  • The use of skateboards, roller skates, rollerblades, and scooters are prohibited. Bicycles are not permitted in the building.

  • Animals, with the exception of service dogs wearing a proper vest, are not allowed in the building.

  • Report injuries, damaged equipment, or suspicious activity as soon as possible to the front desk staff.

  • Verbal instructions issued by staff must be followed.

  • Personal trainers who are not employed by Simmons University are not permitted to train clients in the Holmes Sports Center.

  • Lifeguards must be present for all pool use. Do not enter the pool deck without a lifeguard being on duty.

  • Simmons University and the Holmes Sports Center reserve the right to modify, change, or implement any policy at any time.
