Volleyball Claims Share of Best GNAC Record With Victories over Albertus Magnus, Norwich

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Simmons volleyball (12-7, 8-0 GNAC) is tied with the best conference record following a pair of 3-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victories over Albertus Magnus College and Norwich University on Saturday afternoon.

MATCH 1: Simmons 3, Albertus Magnus 0

In their first match of the day against host Albertus Magnus College, Simmons hit .414 as a team to earn the 3-0 sweep. Senior Kat Simeonidis posted a staggering .727 attack percentage, tallying eight kills on 11 attempts and also paced the offense with 16 assists. Junior April Beatty and followed up with six kills on 12 attempts, while graduate senior Chelsea Simmons notched six kills on 10 attempts in addition to tallying two blocks – one solo and one assisted.

MATCH 2: Simmons 3, Norwich 0

Against the Cadets in their second match of the day, senior outside hitter Jayla Parnell came alive from the floor. Hitting .429 with 11 kills on 21 attempts, Parnell also was outstanding defensively at the net with three block assists. Junior middle blocker Meghan Doxsee led the Sharks at the net with a total of four total blocks – three assisted and one solo.

The setting tandem of Simmons and Simeonidis controlled the offense, combing for a total of 30 assists in the match two to help the Sharks impove to 8-0 in conference.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Senior Kat Simeonidis was flawless from the floor in two matches, hitting .714 with 10 kills on 14 attempts, while notching 32 assists and six service aces.
  • Senior Jayla Parnell posted a .367 attack percentage with 15 kills on 30 attempts against Albertus Magnus College and Norwich University.
  • Graduate senior Chelsea Simmons recorded a .300 hitting percentage with nine kills on 20 attempts, in addition to notching one solo block and one block assist.
