Volleyball Stretches Win Streak to Six Blanking Elms, 3-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Simmons volleyball (10-6, 6-0 GNAC) extended their winning streak to six games with a convincing 3-0 win over Elms College (2-15, 2-5 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Friday night. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1: Simmons 25, Elms 8
The Sharks wasted little time, setting the tone of the match in first set by hitting a staggering .390 as a team. Senior outside hitter Claire Conners led the way notching five kills on eight attempts with just one error, while fellow senior Kat Simeonidis as flawless from the floor with six kills on 11 attempts. Graduate senior Chelsea Simmons paced the offense with nine assists.

SET 2: Simmons 25, Elms 19
With momentum of their side, Simmons rolled to a 25-19 win in the second set to take the two-game match lead. Once again they were an offensive juggernaut, posting a .382 team attack percentage with 16 kills and just three errors. 

Junior middle blocker Meghan Doxsee was nearly perfect from the floor, tallyng four kills on six attempts. Junior outside hitter April Beatty matched Doxsee with four kills on eight attempts and just one error for a .375 hitting percentage.

SET 3: Simmons 25, Elms 19
Simmons cruised to the three-game sweep, taking the third and final set by a score of 25-19. First-year outside hitter Hannah Pridgeon hit .400 from the floor, tallying four kills on 10 attempts, while registering six digs and one block assist. Senior outside hitter Jayla Parnell and Conners followed up with a pair of kills each. 

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Senior outside hitter Claire Conners hit an outstanding .471 with nine kills on 17 attempts and just one miscue, while tallying two block assists.
  • Junior middle blocker Meghan Doxsee registered six kills on 13 attempts with one error for a .385 attack percentage and one block assists.
  • First-year Hannah Pridgeon led the Sharks with 13 digs, while tallying six kills on the evening.

GAME NOTES

  • Simmons hit .349 as a team with 44 kills on 109 attempts and just six miscues.
  • The Sharks also notched six block assists on the night.
