Volleyball Earns First Win Over Brandeis in Program History

WALTHAM, Mass. – Simmons volleyball (4-6) earned its first win over Brandeis (5-3) in program history, defeating the Judges in four sets, 3-1, on Wednesday evening.  

First-year Hannah Pridgeon posted .353 attack percentage as she surpassed her single-game high, tallying 13 kills on 34 attempts with just one error.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1: Simmons 25, Brandeis 20
The Sharks set the tone of the early. Hitting .302 as a team, they pulled out to take a 1-0 match lead with a 25-20 win. Graduate senior Chelsea Simmons was flawless on the floor registering five kills on nine attempts, while Pridgeon and senior Jayla Parnell followed up with four kills.

SET 2: Simmons 25, Brandeis 13
Their momentum rolled into the second set. Junior Meghan Doxsee joined in on the offense, tallying three kills on three attempts to help the Sharks take a convincing 2-0 match lead. Pridgeon also notched three kills, while sophomore Kate Petrosso and Simmons was crucial at the net with two total blocks – one assisted and one solo.

SET 3: Brandeis 25, Simmons 18
Brandeis managed to avoid the shutout, pulling out the third set, 25-18. The Judges' combined for a total of six blocks defensively, while Anna Ertischek notched five kills on 10 attempts.

SET 4: Simmons 25, Brandeis 14
However, the Sharks righted the ship in the fourth set and sealed the match with a 25-14 victory. Pridgeon was flawless from the floor tallying four kills on nine attempts, while Parnell was right behind her posting a .500 hitting percentage (three kills on six attempts) to go along with a solo block.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • First-year Hannah Pridgeon was eclipsed her single-game best, tallying 13 kills on 34 attempts with just one error for a .353 attack percentage.
  • Senior Jayla Parnell hit .353 with seven kills on 17 attempts and one error and also recorded one solo block.
  • Graduate senior Chelsea Simmons notched a double-double tallying 17 assists and 12 digs.

GAME NOTES

  • The win was Simmons' in program-history against Brandeis.
  • Simmons hit a solid .287 as a team with 42 kills on 115 attempts and only nine errors.
