Volleyball Splits Saturday Afternoon Tri-Match with Eastern Connecticut State, Bay Path

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Simmons volleyball (2-4) split Saturday afternoon's tri-match, defeating Bay Path University, 3-0, after dropping a tough four-set match against, host, Eastern Connecticut State, Saturday afternoon.  

Junior outside hitter Claire Conners led the way for the Sharks, hitting .293 with 31 kills on 82 attempts and seven errors, while sophomore April Beatty followed up tallying 18 kills. Junior setter Kat Simeondis steadied the offense with 65 assists.

EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 3, SIMMONS 1

After dropping the first set and finding themselves down a game, the Sharks rebounded and dominated the Warriors, 25-13, to even the match at 1-1. However, Eastern Connecticut answered in the third set, edging out Simmons, 29-27 before taking the fourth set by a final score of 26-24.

Conners was one of two players in double digit kills. Although she swung along, the California native still put down 19 kills, while Beatty followed up with a career single-game high 13 kills, Simeondis paced the offense tallying 34 assists.

SIMMONS 3, BAY PATH 3

The Sharks halted their four-game skid by dominating Bay Path University in game two, 3-0. Conners was lights out once again for the Sharks, registering a .333 attack percentage with a team-high 12 kills on 27 attempts and just three miscues to go along with four digs and a solo block.

Sophomore Nalani Majkia was nearly perfect from the floor, registering five kills on seven attempts, while junior Jayla Parnell also notched five kills. Beatty remained consistent against the Wildcats, hitting .333 with five kills on nine attempts and two errors. Simeondis controlled the offense with 31 assists.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore April Beatty registered a career single-game high 13 kills on 37 attempts and just five errors in four sets against Eastern Connecticut State.
  • Junior Claire Conners posted a .293 attack percentage on the afternoon, combing for 31 kills on 82 attempts against Eastern Connecticut State and Bay Path University
  • Junior Kat Simeonidis paced the offense with 65 assists.
