BOSTON – Simmons volleyball (1-2) dropped a tri-match to local rival Emerson College, 3-0, and Manhattanville, 3-0, on Sunday morning.

Junior outside hitter Jayla Parnell tied her career single-game high in the second match of the day, tallying 14 kills against Manhattanville, and finished the day with 18 kills. Sophomore libero Joenissa Ortiz also recorded a single-game best, tallying 13 defensive digs in their first match against Emerson.

EMERSON 3, SIMMONS 0

In the first match of the Sunday matinee with the Lions, junior outside hitter Claire Conners was one of three players to register seven kills. She was joined by fellow outside hitter Sydney Iannantuono who also posted seven kills, while sophomore Nalani Majkia was flawless from the floor notching seven kills on 11 attempts with zero errors.

Iannantuono along with Ortiz led the way defensively with 13 defensive digs as junior Kat Simeonidis paced the offense with 19 assists. As a team, the Sharks were once again solid from the service line with seven aces, including two from Conners and junior Megan McNamara.

MANHATTANVILLE 3, SIMMONS 0

Simmons came out of the gate strong in the second match of the day with a back-and-forth barn-burner against Manhattanville, before dropping the first set, 25-20. Parnell powered the offense, hitting an outstanding .400 from the outside with 14 kills on 25 attempts and just four miscues.

Conners continued to be steady against the Valients, registering seven kills, while also contributing defensively with six defensive digs. Setting both Conners and Parnell was the steady Simeonidis, who to tallied 26 assists to add to seven digs and a pair of service aces. But it was not enough fire power against a Manhattanville team that hit .323 from the floor in all three sets.
