Weeg, Gray-Williams Lead Volleyball over Mount Ida, 3-2

NEWTON, Mass. - Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) smashed 21 kills and first year Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) set for 27 assists to lead the Simmons College women's volleyball team over host Mount Ida College, 3-2 (25-16, 25-21, 19-25, 24-26, 15-11) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match this evening at the MIC Athletic Center in Newton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the league, while the Mustangs fall to 10-7 and 0-2.

The Sharks improve to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the league, while the Mustangs fall to 10-7 and 0-2.

Weeg matched her season-high kill total for the third time this season for Simmons and added 10 digs for her second double-double of the year in addition to three block assists, while Gray-Williams' assist total was a career high and her 13 digs give her three double-doubles for the campaign. She also added two aces. First year outside hitter Riley Roberge (Peoria, Ariz.) contributed with 16.5 points on 11 kills, five aces and a block assist to go with six digs and senior right side hitter Amber Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev.) put down eight kills on a .316 hitting mark in addition to firing three aces, picking up six digs and assisting on a block. First year libero Julia Fusco (Beverly, Mass.) registered a team-high 16 digs. 

Senior outside hitter Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) and junior outside hitter Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.) each spiked for 10 kills to lead Mount Ida. Reidy also added a match-best 17 digs for a double-double to go with four aces and a pair of block assists, while Walton recorded a double-double of her own with 10 digs in addition to two block assists and an ace. Sophomore Alexis Bell (Salem, Conn.) set for 20 assists and added 13 digs, an ace, two block assists and two kills.

The Sharks return to the court on Saturday, September 30 when they travel to Plymouth, N.H. to take on host Plymouth State University and Bates College in a tri-match starting at noon, while the Mustangs head to Boston on the same day to play host Emmanuel College (Mass.) and Dean College in a noon tri-match.
