Sharks Fall on Day 2 of Springfield Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Simmons Volleyball fell to Amherst College, 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-9) in their second match of the Springfield Invitational Saturday morning.

The Sharks were then defeated by Westfield State in the consolation game, 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-13) to finish the tournament still looking for their first win this season.

 

In game one, the Lord Jeffs Maggie Danner buried 13 kills and hit .385, while teammate Jackie Buechler added 10 and hit .533 to put the Sharks on defense early. Simmons freshman Alexandria Itasaka (Bradford, Mass.) led the Sharks defense with 10 digs and Abby Hart (Westfield, Mass.) added four blocks. Kat Guillotte (New Bedford, Mass.), who posted a team-high four kills, threw down several key points but it was not enough as Amherst rolled to a 3-0 victory.

 

Against Westfield State, Simmons senior Megan Chamberlin (Milford, Mass.) hit .375 with seven kills and just one error to keep the Sharks in all three sets. Guillotte recorded another strong showing, adding five kills and nine digs, while Morgan Kieon (North Attleboro, Mass.) posted her second consecutive game with double-digit assists.

 

The Owls Lindsay Rescott and Jessica Warner dominated the Westfield offense with 16 and 13 kills, respectively. Carolyn Cote added 30 assists and Carole Duquette was a force on defense with five blocks.

 

Simmons first year Morgan Kieon was selected the All-Tournament team. Kieon had seven kills, 38 assists and 16 digs over the weekend.
