BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons lacrosse (3-6, 1-2 GNAC) snapped a five-game skid with a convincing 12-8 victory over Rivier University (3-3, 0-3 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action, Saturday afternoon.

The Sharks struck first, scoring 19 seconds into the contest. Graduate senior Riley Wasiuk buried a free position goal for her seventh goal of the season to put Simmons in front, 1-0. Rivier evened the contest less than two minutes later, but the tie was short-lived. Sophomore Campbell Crane capped off a 4-0 run, connecting with senior attacker Julia Chausse to put the Sharks in front 5-1.

Rivier inched their way back scoring twice just before the end of the first quarter to pull within two goals of the lead. But Simmons re-kindled the offense at the start of the second period. Crane found herself as the helper connecting with Kat Wood to put the Sharks up 6-3. Moments later junior Frida Turriza extended the lead to four goals on a player advantage opportunity. A minute later, Turriza added her fourth goal of the game to make it an 8-3 lead.

After the Raiders scored a pair of goals – including a player-up goal – late in the period, Crane dished a pass to Chausse with three minutes left and take a four-goal, 9-5 lead into the break.

Emerging from the locker room at the start of the second half, the Sharks edged out the Raiders, 3-2. Chausse tallied her third goal of the game at the start of the period, but Rivier answered and closed the gap back to four a minute later. However, Simmons was not backing down offensively.

Midway through the period, Wasiuk drove towards the goal and fired a shot off a Raider defender. She quickly collected her own rebound and flicked in her second goal of the game to extend the lead back to five, 11-6.

First-year goalkeeper Anya Younie played outstanding in net, registering eight saves to earn her third victory of the season.
