BRIGHTON, Mass. – In a tight, barnburner, Simmons lacrosse (3-1) secured its third straight victory with a 15-12 win over non-conference Occidental College (2-5), on Wednesday evening.

Less than minute into game junior Julia Chausse connected with sophomore Frida Turriza to put Simmons in front, 1-0, but Occidental answered with back-to-back to goals to take a 2-1 lead. It set the tone that this game was going to be a back-and-forth match-up.

Graduate senior Abby Stoller tied up the game once again with nine-and-a-half minutes left in the quarter, burying a pass from Chausse into the back of the net. However, the Tigers answered with a pair of goals in 40 seconds apart to jump ahead by two, 4-2. It did not last for long.

Junior Cameron Richards pulled the Sharks back within a goal, before Chausse knotted up the score at four on a free position shot and a player advantage with just over four minutes. The two teams exchanged goals at the end of the period to head into the second quarter all square at 5-5.

The second period had the same feel as the first period. Turriza opened with a goal from Kat Wood to give the Sharks the 6-5 lead, but the Tigers responded with back-to-back goals to jump in front, 7-6. Wood found sophomore Maddie Desimio-Maloney in front of the net to tie up the game for the sixth time.

After Occidental scored with just over three minutes play in the half to grab the 8-7 lead, the Sharks converted two free position goals from Richards and junior Marita Nothacker to go into the locker room with a 9-8 advantage.

When the teams emerged from the locker room at the start of the second half, the Tigers scored quickly scored the equalizer. It was a short-lived lead as three minutes later, Nothacker scored her second free position goal of the game to take the lead back. Moments later, Stoller bolted up the field towards the goal to put the Sharks in front by two, 11-9. Occidental closed the gap to one, 11-10, with a minute and a quarter left to play in the period.

At the start of the final period of the play, the Tigers evened the scored in the opening minute, but four unanswered goals by the Sharks quickly made it a four-goal lead and sealed the deal.

Senior goalie Katie Castle earned her first win of the season, coming into the game late in the last 23 minutes, registering five saves on eight shot attempts.
